The world’s financial capital, London, is a prime destination for major blockchain events. After the successful conclusion of the London Fintech Week, held in July 2018, the city will now play host to the World Blockchain Forum 2018, which is scheduled to be held on September 3-5, 2018, at Old Billingsgate.

The event is being conducted by Keynote, which has curated similar events this year in Dubai, Miami and New York. The theme for WBF 2018 is ICOs and Security Tokens, two very important sectors of the blockchain space that are turning out to be a regulatory challenge for countries worldwide. The event will bring together a star-studded line up of over 100 world-class presenters, interactive opportunities with blockchain influencers and project exhibitions, with attendance expected at over 1,500 top management officials from ICO and blockchain companies worldwide.

A Short History of WBF

Keynote, launched in 2012 by blockchain strategist Moe Levin, has been involved in conducting events that drive innovation and growth in the blockchain space. The events bring together people who have had an impactful presence in the industry and those who can share meaningful insights into how the technology can be made eligible for greater mainstream adoption.

WBF London, incidentally, has served as a launchpad for many projects, including Dash, RSK and Ethereum, in the past. They have had events in Miami, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Dubai, Amsterdam and New York, which have been attended by over 20,000 executives, investors, entrepreneurs and tech visionaries from around the world.

WBF Agenda for 2018

The agenda of the team this year is to bring forth existing issues and advancements in the field of ICOs and the emergence of STOs (Security Token Offerings). ICOs have garnered a total of $6.3 billion over the past two years, changing the very nature of venture funding for startups. While the industry is lucrative, regulatory sanctions have posed a problem worldwide. Many ICOs have been found to be actually the launch of security tokens in disguise, thereby incurring the wrath of governing bodies, such as the US SEC.

Security Token Offering is a kind of the new kid on the crypto block. It is an upgrade from ICOs, through which people will be able to buy coins that actually behave like a tradable asset. Quite like financial securities, these tokens will be backed by something tangible, such as revenues, dividends or profits of a company. Experts are suggesting that the latter half of 2018 or 2019 will see a surge in such launches and they might even outdo ICOs. As it is, IPOs are gradually declining, so STOs could be the logical way to set up a new business model.

This will open up the floodgates for established companies too, apart from new projects in practically every field, which will drive greater innovations. The sky is the limit here!
